Archery with the Young Farmers

Aug 19th, 2011 | By | Category: Archery

This evening I had a group from the Whittington and Oswestry Young Farmers Club for a couple of hours of archery. They’re usual routine is to meet up for a bit of an activity of one sort or another, before heading down to the pub for the rest of the evening. I certainly wouldn’t fancy giving them bows and arrows after their visit to the pub!

It was quite a breezy evening, so I set the targets up relatively close to the shooting line. I must either have underestimated the effect of the wind or overestimated their ability as some struggled to hit the target to start with. However, things did improve after a bit of practice, a few helpful tips and general acclimatising to the conditions.

There was certainly a competitive streak developing between some and we even needed a ‘shoot off’ between two that had come first equal at one point.

There was a great atmosphere as everyone enjoyed catching up again, whilst having a go at the archery. When the draw of the pub finally became too strong, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of help everyone gave me in packing away before heading off – much appreciated.

Thanks for a great evening, and I look forward to doing some other evenings for you in the future.
