Doubles Canoe Course

Canoe courses in Snowdonia, Shropshire and North WalesThe doubles canoe courses are designed to give you all the basic skills you need to paddle a canoe efficiently as a member of a pair on flat water. We’ll look at basic canoe equipment, appropriate clothing, access issues and legislation, getting the canoe in and out of the water, as well as plenty of time learning and practising paddling strokes for both the front and rear paddlers.

People have a tendency to want to stay in their preferred seat but, for the purposes of maximising the effectiveness of the course, we’ll be encouraging you to swap around. It helps develop your understanding of what the other paddler has to do as well as improving your own skills.

If you’re up for getting wet towards the end of the day, we’ll even practise a few rescue techniques, for either rescuing yourself or someone else!

Solo Canoe Course

Paddling a canoe solo is a complex art, and takes a great deal of practice. Don’t expect to come away from this one day introduction having mastered it. We do ask that all participants start this course with at least some level of previous canoe experience in doubles paddling in order to benefit from the sessions.

The solo canoe courses look at all the areas covered in the doubles course, but introduces additional strokes, position in the boat and dealing with prevailing conditions which can make paddling a canoe a challenging prospect.
