As with all first aid qualifications, mine need updating every three years. With all my outdoor qualifications only being valid with a current first aid, it’s rather important that I keep on top of it. Three years ago I did a REC Emergency First Aid course, so it seemed to make sense to go a bit further this time and do the REC Advanced course.

So I spent this weekend at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre in Capel Curig, on the two day course. It turned out to be a small and personal affair, with only two of us on the course, with the other participant being a nurse, so I was left feeling a little under the spotlight. However, it was fantastic to be able to get through so much material at a good depth. With only two of us we got lots of hands on practice and, with no one else to observe, we got lots of feedback.

It was a very useful couple of days, although I hope not to have to put many things into practice!
