Abseiling at Salomons

Today involved a long drive down to Kent to work for the Adventure Rope Course at their site at Salomons near Tunbridge Wells. It was my first visit down there and, other than the 10 hours of driving, it was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to see this venue.

I was part of a team of a dozen outdoor instructors providing a team building challenge for the trainline.com, consisting of a range of activities. Having spent the morning stuck indoors using the conference facilities, the afternoon provided the teams with the chance to have a bit of fun with a competitive edge.

I spent a couple of hours operating the abseil, which started off the roof of 30m circular tower which looked as though it should have been in a fairy tale. It was an ideal abseil, with nowhere for people to get stuck, although getting out over the edge was a brave move for those new to abseiling. However, everyone was really supportive of each other no matter how professionally (or not!) they made it look.
