British Canoe Union

The British Canoe Union is the governing body for canoeing and kayaking in the United Kingdom. It promotes participation at all levels, from recreational users to international competitors, represents the interests of canoeists at local, national and international levels, and is a member of the International Canoe Federation.

The BCU is the umbrella organisation for Canoe England, the Scottish Canoe Association, Canoe Wales and the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland.

Set up in 1936 to send a team to the Berlin Olympics, the British Canoe Union (BCU) is the lead body for canoeing and kayaking in the UK. Since it’s creation, the organisation has grown considerably, and the range of canoeing opportunity has increased tremendously.

Martin Digby is a member of the BCU, and one of it’s qualified coaches, running both canoe courses and kayak courses.
