Shrewsbury High School at the Adventure Rope Course

For the last few years I’ve been involved with annual sessions at the Adventure Rope Course for the girls from Shrewsbury High School that have been doing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. In the past, the session has been used as a post expedition treat after all their hard work. However, this year the school decided to come earlier in the term and use their visit as past of the team building process.

Not as easy as it looks!

Four teams came in the morning with another four in the afternoon. With the focus being that much more on team work skills, we spent more time on ground based activities than we have in the past. We’d set up a whole range of tasks and activities for us to dip into as we felt best suited the needs of each individual group. All involved communication to differing degrees, but some majored on planning, reviewing and improving, while others on physical cooperation and making the most of individual’s strengths.

After about an hour and a half of ground based stuff, we headed into the Rope Course proper and donned helmets and harnesses and had a go on the High All Aboard, the Giant Swing, the Leap of Faith and the Adventure Tunnels. Again, activities requiring cooperation, coordination, strength, balance, planning, encouragement and a good dose of personal bravery.

Thanks to all the girls that made it such an enjoyable day. I hope you have a great expedition section over the coming weeks and months.
