Canoeing on The Mere with Adventure +

Having been rock climbing at Trevor Rocks yesterday with the Adventure + group from Ellesmere College, we stayed closer to home today and went canoeing on The Mere in Ellesmere for the morning.

After a few silly warm up games, we got on the water to see what they could do. Many, but certainly not all, of the group had been canoeing with me in the past so I was interested to see how they would get on without any ‘helpful hints’ from me at the start. I was pleased to see that most paddling pairs seemed to be getting things together pretty quickly, which enabled me to concentrate my efforts on those that weren’t finding things quite so easy.

The rest of the session was fairly standard, but I was pleased to have a couple of willing volunteers to try out my recent invention – the canoe see-saw. Nothing more than a bit of fun, this long plank secures onto the canoe making the boat itself the fulcrum. So far, it has proved very popular with those that are brave enough to give it a go, usually encouraging others to try it out as well.
