This afternoon, I took a small group of 6 pupils from Ellesmere Primary School for a 2 hour session at the Adventure Rope Course just north of Shrewsbury, on the grounds of the Albrighton Hall Hotel. One or two had some previous experience of high rope activities, but none had been to the Adventure Rope Course before, and there were a few wide eyes as they got out of the minibus!

Messing about with ropes and harnesses can take a bit of time, so 2 hours can disappear amazingly quickly. We started with a gentle introduction to heights on the Climbing Wall, before needing a bit more courage for the Leap of Faith. Not everyone felt up to the task of standing on the wobbly platform at the top of the pole, but those that did all came down to earth with a big grin!

After two height based activities, we dived into the Adventure Tunnels system. It’s full of dead ends and trap doors, but this group seemed to have trouble in finding their way through. However, they got there in the end before leaving the top of the tower on the Parachute Simulator. It’s one of those activities that actually requires very little of you – one step out of the door is all it takes, but this can take people quite a long time! Personally, I prefer using the perfectly good set of stairs.

To finish off the session, we gave ourselves a workout on the Giant Swing, which always generates a few good screams and choice phrases being blurted out – not always good in front of your teacher!
