Indoor Bouldering at Ellesmere Colege

Today was the first of a four day activity holiday club at Ellesmere College. Adventure + has been running for a couple of years now and seems to be very popular with those kids that come along.

This afternoon I was using the College’s own indoor bouldering wall to introduce the kids to a few basic climbing techniques, but mainly to have a bit of fun testing themselves and finding out for themselves just how hard it really can be.

After a few warm up exercises, we introduced a few more demanding challenges. Many found the challenges difficult, but the incentive of sweets as rewards for the successful seemed to work a treat and kept them working at it. The challenge of bouldering whilst blindfolded was also an interesting experiment which, although not appropriate for all groups, I’m sure I’ll use again in the future.
