Concord College Climbing Activity

I seem to be working with Concord College a fair amount at the moment, but generally it is with the 6th form students. This afternoon I got to spend a few hours with some of the lower school pupils who have an activities afternoon on a Wednesday. Some were certainly a little apprehensive once they realised how they were spending their afternoon, but most entered the spirit of the afternoon and gave it a good go.

We had two groups of approximately 15 pupils for about an hour and a quarter each. I structured the session in exactly the same way as I had for the 6th formers on Monday, with some time bouldering in pairs and introducing a few movement techniques before using the ropes and starting the challenge of reaching the top.

The extra numbers meant that we had 4 climbs running simultaneously but, with some valuable support from a member of Concord staff, we were able to monitor the belaying effectively. It was certainly a busy afternoon, but a great opportunity to continue to build a relationship with the staff and pupils of this fascinating school.
