Carn Mor Dearg via Coire Leis

I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to get up Carn Mor Dearg for years, and every time I’ve tried to go up the back of Coire Leis (at the side of Ben Nevis) I’ve had to back off due to the poor snowpack stability. So to do both today was a real treat!

We encountered a lot of blue ice at the base of the main coire, but the back wall of Coire Leis was mainly neve with a couple of inches of windslab in patches. The ridge was quite exposed at times, but straight forward enough, on our way round to Carn Mor Dearg where were enjoyed some fantastic views of Ben Nevis itself and all the winter climbing activity on the north face.
